Home Biz Myth:
You Can Do What You Like Because You’re The Boss

Mihaela (Mig) Lica is the brains behind Pamil Visions, a home based online public relations & SEO company.

She also co-blogs at YouCanSubmit. Her personal blog is Ewritings Online Public Relations.

Mig is the co-founder of Blogger Power, an initiative to request porn sites to install password protection to protect children surfing the net.

Mig says…
Gosh, I particularly like friends expecting you to go out of the house at any time because, isn’t it true that you have no boss to tell you want to do?

The truth is that, as a home biz owner, you have the boss of bosses! Guess who? ;)

HOME BIZ MYTH BUSTED!!

Thanks Mig - he he… This is a good one! The boss of bosses is usually the toughest one to work for, and won’t let you go out without finishing what you’re doing… and probably a few more things on the list besides. Yes, I agree the toughest boss is yourself… also often the hardest to please. LOL…

Good insight, Mig and Yvonne. Just because we’re our own boss doesn’t mean we don’t have commitments. Also, we do have deadlines driving us (a boss of sorts) to get products or services finished for our customers. If we don’t meet those commitments we don’t have customers/clients…and untimately don’t have a business.

Great post Yvonne! I agree that there are MANY home biz myths that need busting! One of my biggest pet peeves is family and friends thinking that just because your time is so flexible, you should be able to do whatever THEY want you to do when THEY want you to do it. AAAGGGGHH!!

Hi Yvonne, hello Mary Emma. :)
You cannot even imagine my surprise in seeing a fun intended comment features as a home biz busted myth. LOL. But in the end, I guess that’s right. I am sure I am not the only one facing this dilemma. It’s areal art keeping a balance between work and personal life when your personal life is work.
Also, another one (bonus) what about those friends who expect you to create a press release, article, web design or whatever, for free, because, isn’t it, you can and “you have the time, since you are not permanently employed” and then they start complaining worse than a paying customer? ;) Does this ever happen to you girls?

Thanks for stopping by, Bridget, and sharing your thoughts. Yes, it is frustrating when friends and family think your time is THEIR time because you “only” work at home.

    Hi Mig,
Thanks for stopping by and discussing those who expect services for “free” because you “have time” and are their friend or family member. Yes, those we don’t charge often are the least professional and complain the most.
