Home Business Owners Need Exercise, too
Taking care of yourself and your health becomes especially important when you’re a home business owner. Often you’re the one who makes everything go. If you’re sick and can’t produce products or provide services, does your business slow down, perhaps even come to a standstill?
This was driven home to me when I lay flat in bed in a body cast with a broken back for six weeks several years ago. At that time I had some writing commitments, including two weekly newspaper columns. If my daughter hadn’t been able to help me, would I have lost those column gigs? The editors said, “Don’t worry,” but would they have found someone to replace me?
So consider…..exercise to keep youself in better health. (That wouldn’t have prevented my being in bed in my case. But it can help maintain health now.)
“Exercise!” you exclaim. “How do I find time for that.?”
After reading Kendra’s post, The Winter Season Affects Blood Pressure, at A Hearty Life, you may want to take a look at your exercise routine (or lack of) and your diet during the colder months. (Even if you’re in the southern hemisphere this time of year, consider what she has to say.)
She mentions that studies have found people often have higher blood pressure, as well as higher incidence of heart attacks and strokes, in winter when they may be exercising less and eating more.
Exercise also helps relieve stress, so when you’re meeting deadlines and trying to juggle home business with all your other commitments, you may want to see about squeezing in a walk if it isn’t too cold. Or get an exercise video…and use it. Perhaps some of your family will join you, too, and make it a joint activity.
Does anyone have a favorite exercise video/CD?
How do you squeeze exercise in with your daily routine? I know it’s difficult for me…or I think it is.
I try to find exercises I can do along with my daily routines when I don’t have time for a walk or workout.

Wonderful post, Mary Emma.
Planning ahead so things don’t “topple over” with your business when you become unexpectedly sick is key as well. It also helps with the manageability and stress level aspects.

Thanks, Yvonne. We usually don’t expect to be ill or be injured in an accident or have family emergencies. Almost everyone could benefit from pre-planning for emergencies…and hope those emergencies don’t occur.
