Various Types of Promotion for your Home Business

Promotion of your home business is important if you’re to get word out about your products or services. Sometimes this is rather low key; or you may conduct rather intense marketing and advertising. Also, promotion will depend on the type of business you operate.

Some means of promotion are costly while others are inexpensive. All promotion demands persistence and repetiveness. You can’t give up when only one responds to your first ad in a publication or the first sales call or first newsletter. You have to become a known entity to people who will purchase your products or utilize your services now and in the future.

Promotion also depends on whether you want to reach people in the local region where you live or whether you’re attempting to sell to a national group. For regional promotions, you’ll more likely use the local media, community events and word-of-mouth. National markets involve practices such as advertising in publications with widespread circulation, use of web sites and blogs, and joining online marketing groups.

Submitting press releases, writing articles for publications, speaking for groups, networking at conferences…all are ways to develop name and business recognition.

In future posts to this blog, I’ll expand upon these various methods of promotion. Just remember, you need to analyze what will work for your business and where your target markets are.
