A Home Business May Aid You in Returning to School

by Mary Emma Allen on May 16th, 2009

“I’d like to find a way to go back to school,” a young mom remarked.  “But I’ve got to work at a job and juggle babysitting with my husband’s schedule.  Maybe when both children are in school.”

She may not have thoughts of a home business, but working from home can enable moms…and dads…to fit in their schooling, too.  Do you have a talent or hobby you can turn into a home business that will give you a flexible schedule  to fit in a class or classes as you work toward a degree or some type of training?

Online work enables one to be at home, often with children around, too, and take classes at a local place of education or even online.

When my daughter was small, I had a dressmaking and quiltmaking business.  I also wanted to get further along with my writing career, so took several correspondence courses.  (In those days, they were correspondence courses through the mail, not online.)  These were courses in writing for children, journalism, and art.  They launched my getting published.

In the meantime, I could work at home at my businessand  be with our daughter while I furthered my education.  Then as my career progressed, I began teaching writing classes in local schools as well as the continuing education department of the local university.

So…if you’d like to get more education, learn a new training, even become involved in teaching yourself, take a look at your home business or one you could develop and see how you can coordinate these goals.

Have any of you combined home business and education?
