Go Pink For October - Support Breast Cancer Awareness
Organizers of Pink For October want to raise awareness of breast cancer issues.
They hope “… web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research.”
Both Women & Men Can Get Breast Cancer
Yes, men can get breast cancer too. While it is rare, it occurs most commonly in men between 60 and 70 years old. Regardless of gender, breast cancer affects men, women and families. This is an issue we can all relate to or have been touched by.
What Can You Do In Your Home Business To Support Breast Cancer Awareness?
Free buttons and banners such as the ones displayed here are available at the site.
- Include information about your home business’s participation in your newsletter, or on your blog or site.
- Donate a small percentage of your sales or services proceeds for one week in October to breast cancer causes in your area.
- Team with other businesses to donate a combined gift basket to a women’s group in your area for a competition or prize.
- If you offer services, offer a discounted service when customers provide proof of donation to breast cancer campaigns.
Think Before You Pink
There are lots of Think Pink promotions about in the stores, but Laura Spencer at Work From Home Momma cautions that some of these companies may be just capitalizing on the cause, rather than actually supporting it. Who would have thought there would need to be a buyer beware for a cause as important as this?

Thanks for linking to my post. It was sort of a shock to me that marketers would misuse the charity, but I guess it shouldn’t have been. I hope that blogging about it has helped others to make more intelligent choices.

Laura - You’re welcome. I was shocked too, but I’m pleased you highlighted it, as it’s not something you automatically think about when shopping and trying to support a cause.
