Poll Insights & A Surprise
It looks like expanding or selling out are the 2 main choices. However, commenters and those who emailed, mentioned a further option not covered in the poll - going in a different direction, based more on what you want to do, rather than what you need to do.

Home Based Freelance Writers
Freelance Writers, Anne Wayman of The Golden Pencil and Sharon Hurley Hall of Get Paid To Write Online both commented that they’d like to pursue their own projects - “cherry pick”, as Sharon put it.

Anne Wayman at The Golden Pencil highlighted this when she commented at our poll and did her own follow up post - Would You Still Write If You Had A Million Dollars?

Darren Rowse at Problogger picked up Anne’s post and asked Would You Blog Differently If You Had Money?

This little poll has sparked some interest… must be that million dollars I was “giving away.” :)

Actually, those are pretty interesting results. I would have expected more to hire staff or move into a storefront.

Perhaps this indicates that home business owners are operating that way because they don’t want the hassle that hiring staff or enlarging would entail. I know I don’t want ever to own a large business again…my husband and I’ve had a couple with staff and one was a store front type. Working from the home also gives me more flexibility and less overhead.

Hey Yvonne, have I come in too late to collect on that Million Dollars?
It took me longer that I expected to decide on my answer (hmmm…something to think about there). But I decided I would expand my home business. I’d probably focus on more outsourcing options and passive income structures so I could take a more strategic role rather than tactical.

    Hi Laura
I was interested in the results too, especially the responses about going in different directions and doing their own projects.

    Hi Karen
It’s a virtual million dollars… so it’s never too late to grab it. ;)

Outsourcing and passive income are great strategies for giving yourself more time and still growing your business.
