Writers Cafe - Is The Word “Blog” Obsolete?
Is the word “blog” obsolete?
There’s an interesting discussion brewing around this topic at the Weekend Writers Cafe at Grow Your Writing Business this weekend.
I’ve often found it tricky to explain exactly what a blog is to a non blogger - even harder to someone not on the web at all.
What Does Blogging Mean To You?
- How do you explain a blog to fellow business owners, family or friends?
- What do you think a blog could do for your business?
- Are there reasons why you have or would like a business blog?
- Are there reasons why you feel you don’t need a business blog?
Drop over to the cafe and join the conversation, or leave your comments here. The cafe is open all weekend and the coffee is hot.

Since I’ve been a newspaper and magazine columnist for years, I find it easiest to explain to people who ask me, “What is a blog?” that it’s something like a column that I write for an online publishing network. That most can understand.
I further explain that some blogs are more like journals where writers jot down their thoughts and feelings.
Others may be a place where you can make money from advertisers.
Since I’ll be teaching a class for beginning bloggers on June 4, I’m trying to find ways to describe a blog in terms they will relate to.
