Home Business Owners Deal with Alzheimer’s, too

Home business owners encounter Alzheimer’s in their lives, too.  Perhaps it’s a family member, friend, or acquaintance.  So you may want to be aware that today, September 21, has been designated at World Alzheimer’s Day, when activities focus on world awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.  Various events, such as walkathons, workshops, get-togethers have as their goal…creating more awareness of this disease and the people who have been stricken with it.

Ultimately this awareness should result in more research and recognition that with an increasing number of people reaching the “Alzheimer’s age,” we will see more need for care of those stricken and support for their families.

My mom was a business owner, operating a small country grocery store in her latter years.  My aunt stayed home and cared for their mother.  However, she often did housekeeping for others after her mother died.  So you might say she operated a small business, too.

Both developed Alzheimer’s and ultimately became my responsibility.  I now write Alzheimer’s Notes, to encourage others in this situation and provide information and resources for them.

Here are some sites/blogs that give recognition to World Alzheimer’s Day.  Help spread the word yourself.

Are there events in your area?  Are you doing something special today with your Alzheimer’s family member?  Share with us your thoughts and feelings.

    Mary Emma,
I missed World Alzheimer’s Day. Thanks for pointing this out. My father had Alzheimer’s as did his sister. When his father had it, they called it “hardening of the arteries,” but he had the same symptoms as my father developed nearly 40 years later.
