Have Promotional Pens Had Their Day As Marketing Tools?
I have a drawer full of promotional pens. I bet you do too.
I couldn’t even tell you which companies they are from. To me, they are just pens. When I need a pen, I grab one. I don’t notice the company name.
Everyone uses pens, and promotional pens are reasonably priced, so they are an obvious option for busines branding and promoton.

I would agree that a crappy promotional pen is no longer of any value. A nicer promotional pen, one that writes well and feels good in my hands, is a great pen indeed. I actually LOVE my promo pens from Bomgar, because it’s bright orange and is a slick rollerball pen. I love it, and I use it all the time.
My favorite promotion item now? A bright yellow coffee mug. I use it almost every day, in my car, at work, and whenever I need to travel with a cup of coffee.

Hi Phil
Some promotional pens do take it up a notch, so if you have one you love, I guess that’s a flag to business owners looking for promotional products to think about point of difference.
Your mug - I take your point. Maybe the secret is to provide something useful and not just gimmicky - and something that stands out from the crowd for quality - something that makes it memorable (and increases the likelihood of its being used or remarked upon) for whatever reason.
